Trial for Proposed Traffic Calming Measures on the Old Ballina-Killaloe Bridge, Ballina, Co Tipperary

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, as amended, Tipperary County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out a Trial of traffic calming measures on the Old Ballina-Killaloe bridge, Ballina, Co. Tipperary for a specified period.

The proposed Trial of traffic calming measures will consist of the following:

A Trial pedestrianisation of the Old Ballina-Killaloe bridge to prevent access onto the bridge by vehicles and to facilitate the safe use of the bridge by pedestrians and cyclists.

The Trial will take place between 8am Monday, 28 July 2025 and 6pm Friday, 17 October 2025.

The planned conclusion date for the Trial will be 6pm Friday, 17 October 2025.

In accordance with the Habitats Directive, Appropriate Assessment Screening has been carried out on the proposed Trial Traffic Calming Measures and the screening report accompanies the documentation. 

A preliminary examination of the nature, size and location of the Trial Traffic Calming Measures has been carried out and it has been concluded that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed Trial Traffic Calming Measures and, accordingly, an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required. An Environmental Impact Screening Determination accompanies the documentation.

These documents may be inspected during normal office hours, 9:30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Monday to Friday from Monday, 14 July 2025 to Friday, 3 October inclusive (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays). The environmental reports will be available for inspection from Friday, 18 July 2025.
